1. _P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_3_7_0_0__R_e_l_e_a_s_e__N_o_t_e
This release note describes patch SG0003700 to IRIX
6.5/6.5.1/6.5.2/6.5.3/6.5.4/6.5SE.
This patch contains the IRIX 6.5.5 versions of the
installation tools inst, swmgr, showfiles and showprods.
Therefore, IRIX 6.5.5 itself will replace this patch.
If you are using the "live installation" method to upgrade
from any 6.5-based release to another 6.5-based release,
Silicon Graphics recommends that you first install this
patch to take advantage of the most up-to-date installation
tools.
This patch is also useful to install on any 6.5-based
release to take advantage of bug fixes made to the
installation tools (see below.)
1.1 _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__H_a_r_d_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s
This patch contains bug fixes for all platforms.
1.2 _S_u_p_p_o_r_t_e_d__S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e__P_l_a_t_f_o_r_m_s
This patch contains bug fixes for the IRIX Base Execution
Environment. This patch is made to install on a system
running IRIX 6.5, IRIX 6.5.1, IRIX 6.5.2, IRIX 6.5.3, IRIX
6.5.4 or IRIX 6.5SE. The software cannot be installed on
other configurations.
1.3 _B_u_g_s__F_i_x_e_d__b_y__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_3_7_0_0
This patch replaces and rolls-up patches 3262, 3384, 3505,
and 3622 and contains fixes for the following bugs in IRIX
6.5, 6.5.1, 6.5.2, 6.5.3, 6.5.4 or IRIX 6.5SE. Bug numbers
from Silicon Graphics bug tracking system are included for
reference.
+o 507651 inst install_identical_files option fails if
checksums are same but sizes are not. This would cause
inst to incorrectly skip installation of some files in
some rare cases.
+o 581930 The showfiles -D command dumps core when not run
by root.
+o 582937 Inst incorrectly computes disk space
requirements for patches.
- 2 -
+o 599188 Noninteractive inst (inst -a, inst -A, inst -F,
roboinst) does not always update /var/inst/.rqsfiles.
+o 599996 Pre-go disk space check should not stop install.
+o 608438 The admin load <file> command ignores the set
directive in selections files.
+o 614132 Inst incorrectly reports out of space when
f_bfree < 0. This causes inst to fail on when NFS-
mounted filesystems from other vendors report
filesystems running at greater than 100% capacity.
+o 620017 Inst patch needed on 651 CD.
+o 624542 Inst aborts all image loading if any inst.init
returns an error.
+o 635325 Inst should prompt before re-reading the same CD
or distribution. Inst/swmgr will now check whether the
current CD or distribution is already loaded.
+o 636124 Need to create 652 inst patch that replaces
3262.
+o 637666 Inst auto_miniroot installs halt after exitop
error.
+o 641274 Diskless client installations of overlay
releases using client_inst(1M) fail unless all
distributions opened using a single "from" command.
This bug causes problems during diskless client
installations, because inst will not allow the user to
select certain overlay products that have been
installed in the share tree. This can result in
numerous installation conflicts, and can prevent
correct installation of the overlay release (such as
IRIX 6.5.2) in the client tree.
+o 642142 Installation of overlay releases results in many
conflicts unless the "install prereqs" and "keep
incompleteoverlays" commands are used. In this version
of inst and Software Manager, the "standard" keyword
has been changed to include "prereqs" and exclude
"incompleteoverlays". In addition this version of inst
recognizes two special commands "install maint" and
"install feature" to make it easier to switch between
streams. Software Manager has equivalent menu items on
the Install menu.
- 3 -
+o 644926 Inst incorrectly computed prerequisite
dependencies for overlays. This resulted in incorrect
installation conflicts messages in some cases.
+o 649546 Diskless client installations using
client_inst(1) fail to report a conflict if an overlay
product is installed without installation of the base
product.
+o 651983 Remove redundant subsystems from prerequisite
conflicts.
+o 660979 Inst couldn't read a http distribution from a
virtual HTTP server.
+o 665370 Add an eject button to the swmgr dialog that
prompts for a new CD.
+o 665711 Added smart_config_handling preference. If
enabled, do not install config(update) files if the new
dist version has the same size/checksum as the
previously installed version as reported by the inst
history. Enabling this option would eliminate the
post-install merging required of config(update) files
that have not changed between releases.
+o 669083 If the post install rqs processing was cancelled
from swmgr, the rqsall process was not killed if swmgr
was not started from a terminal.
+o 674848 Inst prerequisite conflicts will now provide
information, if available, regarding what CD contains
the missing subsystem.
+o 681987 Release notes in swmgr could not be viewed if
the distribution location was specified with a relative
pathname.
+o 699893 The default value of the smart_config_handling
preference was changed to on.
1.4 _S_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m_s__I_n_c_l_u_d_e_d__i_n__P_a_t_c_h__S_G_0_0_0_3_7_0_0
This patch release includes these subsystems:
+o patchSG0003700.eoe_sw.base
+o patchSG0003700.eoe_man.base

1.5 _I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n__I_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s
Inst will automatically select all patches that apply to
your system. However, it is a good idea to review the
selected patches to determine what will be installed on the
system, and what bugs will be fixed.
If, after reading Sections 1.1 and 1.2 of these release
notes, you are unsure whether your hardware and software
meet the requirements for installing a particular patch, run
_i_n_s_t. The _i_n_s_t program does not allow you to install
patches that are incompatible with your hardware or
software.
Patch software is installed like any other Silicon Graphics
software product. Follow the instructions in your _S_o_f_t_w_a_r_e
_I_n_s_t_a_l_l_a_t_i_o_n _A_d_m_i_n_i_s_t_r_a_t_o_r'_s _G_u_i_d_e to bring up the miniroot
form of the software installation tools.
Follow these steps to select a patch for installation:
1. At the Inst> prompt, type
iiiinnnnssssttttaaaallllllll ppppaaaattttcccchhhhSSSSGGGG_x_x_x_x_x_x_x
where _x_x_x_x_x_x_x is the patch number.
2. Initiate the installation sequence. Type
IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> ggggoooo
3. You may find that two patches have been marked as
incompatible. (The installation tools reject an
installation request if an incompatibility is
detected.) If this occurs, you must deselect one of
the patches.
IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> kkkkeeeeeeeepppp ppppaaaattttcccchhhhSSSSGGGG_x_x_x_x_x_x_x
where _x_x_x_x_x_x_x is the patch number.
4. After completing the installation process, exit the
_i_n_s_t program by typing
IIIInnnnsssstttt>>>> qqqquuuuiiiitttt

1.6 _P_a_t_c_h__R_e_m_o_v_a_l__I_n_s_t_r_u_c_t_i_o_n_s
To remove a patch, use the _v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e command as you
would for any other software subsystem. The removal process
reinstates the original version of software unless you have
specifically removed the patch history from your system.
vvvveeeerrrrssssiiiioooonnnnssss rrrreeeemmmmoooovvvveeee ppppaaaattttcccchhhhSSSSGGGG_x_x_x_x_x_x_x
where _x_x_x_x_x_x_x is the patch number.
To keep a patch but increase your disk space, use the
_v_e_r_s_i_o_n_s _r_e_m_o_v_e_h_i_s_t command to remove the patch history.
vvvveeeerrrrssssiiiioooonnnnssss rrrreeeemmmmoooovvvveeeehhhhiiiisssstttt ppppaaaattttcccchhhhSSSSGGGG_x_x_x_x_x_x_x
where _x_x_x_x_x_x_x is the patch number.
